Through his story and the sample stories of other West African immigrants, America’s promise as land of immigrants with infinite possibilities are rekindled in this self-revealing and self-fulfilling book.

Question1- How has your upbringing influenced your writing?
I grew up as the child of an elementary school teacher and headmaster. The school system that I attended during my elementary and secondary school years concentrated more on essay-based tests and exams instead of multiple-choice. I’ve come to believe that all those essays were very helpful in my later years and in my writing ability.
Question2- When and why did you begin writing?
I’ve always written technical articles and reviews for the past 20 years. Writing my memoir was something I decided to do about 5 years ago because I wanted to get it out of the way and put my experiences in writing so that my kids and the new generation coming behind me will learn something from my experiences and those of other immigrants.
Question3- What do you consider the most challenging thing about writing?
I’ll say, coming up with a good title and subject that will be of interest to a wide audience.
Question4- Do you intend to make writing a career?
Not really. I simply write in addition to my career as a software engineer.
Question5- Have you developed a specific writing style?
Not really sure, but I am more of a prose writer.
Question6- What is your favorite quote?
"I have learned that SUCCESS is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the OBSTACLES which one has overcome while trying to succeed."  – Booker T. Washington

ABOUT BONIFACE NWUGWO

His father, a retired elementary school headmaster, and his mother, a retired seamstress, live part-time in the United States, and part-time in Nigeria.

After graduation from secondary school he spent 18 months working for First Bank of Nigeria while waiting to gain admission into a university. After almost two years of waiting, he travelled to America to pursue his post-secondary education even though he did not have all the resources required to make such a trip.

From the second month of his freshman year at the State University of New York at Brockport, he started working for the school’s Shipping & Receiving Department until his graduation. He graduated from the State University of New York at Brockport in 1984, with a B.S. in Computer Science.  In 1995 he relocated with his wife to the Washington DC area. ABOUT JOHNNY GORA

Author: John Goodale
Publisher: iUniverse
Pages: 194
Language: English
Format: Ebook

Have you ever had your life fall apart, or felt you were on the verge of oblivion and wonder if there were any glimmers of hope ahead? If you’re human, it’s likely that has happened to you at least once. During those times, it may seem like nothing good will ever come your way again. John Goodale felt that way. In his memoir, Johnny Gora, Goodale tells how he watched his entire life crumble. His story begins with growing up in a middle-class home and then embarking on a life of self-delusion, booze and rock n roll in a vain attempt to become a rock star. As that dream died, John found himself in a failed marriage that tore his whole life apart. But when life was at its lowest, he met a new woman—his future wife—and embarked on a humorous crash course in a culture and tradition he grew up around but never really understood. Johnny Gora shows that humor can be found even when things seem the darkest. It may be difficult to see at the time, but as Goodale shows, distance can provide insight into all life’s experiences.

 Yes I said it.
What more wonderful than the Overwhelming feeling of love.
To be able to be near
And to Smell the scent, to caress the tresses, to gently hold a hand,
This is rapture at its acme.
When there are times that I
Am Alone without you the seconds
Go painfully slow.
To espy you
Again is as if the heavens have
Brought forth the shining sun.
The flowers bloom in all their
Radiance and aromas.
To be in love is all.
This is a reality made In heaven.
